Dalston Ladies Vs Glaxo Ladies

 11th Dec 2004

  5-0

Dalston were fired up for this home fixture against Glaxo and their determination was evident from the starting whistle. With just three minutes on the clock Michelle Armstrong skillfully evaded two defenders before firing across the perfect ball for Kirsty Williamson to curl into the Glaxo goal. Despite spending the next thirty minutes in the opposition half Dlaston were unable to turn pressure into goals - it took some well structured hockey from Kirsty Williamson to find Jo Wilson in space with time to powerfully put away Dalston’s second goal. With good forward movement from Katie Richards, Stacey Kane and Sheila Downie and excellent midfield attacking play from Kayleigh Vickers, Rachel Gardhouse and Michelle Armstrong it was inevitable that the Glaxo defense would once again be breached.

Dalston remained in control at the start of the second half and their bombardment of the Glaxo paid off when a terrific run by Jo Wilson from the half way line produced the perfect cross, met first time and confidently put away by Kayleigh Vickers. Not content with one, four minutes later Kayleigh scored an almost identical goal that had the backboard wincing from a cross from the unstoppable Michelle Armstrong.  Dalston were awarded a number of penalty corners but, due to some frantic defending by Glaxo, couldn’t increase the scoreline. It was left to forward debutante Lou Wilson to score the fifth and final goal. With Johnny Wilson deftly allowing Dalston to play advantage in the Glaxo goalmouth, a superb take in the air and crisp forward strike netted Lou a well deserved first goal for the Club in spite of her simultaneous contact with the post. Dalston had the opportunity to end with a flourish when a long ball from Carol Davidson found Katie Richards in space. Her surging forward run took out a number of the visiting defenders and a pin-point cross was pushed onto the busy Glaxo post by Rachel Gardhouse.

Not a game when Dalston defenders and particularly keeper Laura Cuningham were asked too many questions but overall a terrific performance from an in-form side.

Dalston: Laura Cunningham, Laura Clark, Carol Davidson©, Rose Charters, Kayleigh Vickers, Kirsty Williamson, Rachel Gardhouse, Michelle Armstrong, Sheila Downie, Stacey Kane, Katie Rickerby, Louise Wilson, Jo Wilson, Sue Henshaw
